LAST WEEK, A piano was installed on the southbound platform of Dublin’s Pearse Station, and members of the public were invited to play it.
The idea was brought to Irish Rail by piano tuner James Murphy after he saw it work so well in busy stations in London – he told TheJournal.ie:
If you can play at all you have the ability to brighten up someone’s day.
Commuters have certainly taken to it over the past few days.
There have been beginners
Chopsticks is a banger, to be fair.
And people with serious chops
There have been impromptu sing songs
“There’s a crowd around the new piano playing and singing Let It Be,” wrote one Instagram user. “Put a big smile on my face.”
And duets
The folk duo Hudson Taylor dropped in to busk yesterday
And today, a beautiful video of a Galway man playing a few tunes is going viral
Skills!
Basically, this is making a lot of people very happy
The piano is permanently installed at the station so the next time you’re passing through, keep an ear out for some wonderful music. Maith thú, Irish Rail.
